my wife and daughter and I stayed at the ubr for the first two weeks of June 2009,boy what a place.best ever.We were treated like long lost friends by all the staff, and the food,5 star. The hotel driver Gamini, became our friend over our stay, even bringing us to his family home.If you go be sure yo ask for him,he is a mine of knowledge and must be the best driver in Sri Lanka. The waiting staff, security staff and all other staff were a credit to the hotel.

I cannot understand that somebody finds rooms in UBR not clean. I assume this person must have been sleeping in a local guesthouse, but not in UBR.
The food not ok? Well, come and judge for yourself. UBR is is one of the only Sri Lankan hotels with a French top chef. Gilles turns every meal into something that you do not see very often in Sri Lanka.
I stay in UBR every 8 weeks since 2005 and have nothing but positive experiences. Even when things go wrong (and where doesn't something go wrong) UBR's management deals with it and resolves it if it is within their power to do so.
So, again, book this hotel without any worries about cleanliness and enjoy the food.

I find the review published here by raj_73 entitled 'Upsetting experience at UBR' unbelievable. I have stayed at this hotel on 4 seperate occassions and intend to stay again in October this year. I have always found ALL of the staff to be friendly, helpful and very professional. I would not hesitate to recommend a stay at UBR.

our stay in sri lanka was definitly enhanced by our stay at UBR. the position on the beach and near proximity to Galle and other interesting places was excellent. The staff food service and personalities at the UBR made our stay fun and we feel a great example of sri lankan civility |

We really enjoyed our stay at the Unawatuna Beach Resort, we stayed over Christmas week last year. It is located in the center of the beautiful beach, which is the best location on the U-shaped cove. There are lounge chairs for your use, and there is snorkling right off of the beach, or you can have Asanka, the super helpful diving/tour organizer hire you a boat to take you around the corner for more undersea adventures.
The rooms are a moderate and sufficient size, and have all of the imenities that you need (a/c, TV, patio, laundry, etc.). The staff was always helpful and accomodating, and our room boy was amazing. Every night he made a beautiful display on our bed with flowers. On the last night, he spelled out Good Bye for us, which made us cry!
The food is really good, the breakfast buffet is tons of food, and the bar makes the best cocktails on the beach. Go to Sri Lanka and support the local people, there are no risks going to the Southern part, and they are the friendliest people in the world! Unawatuna is a really cute town, and a good base for a Southern excursion.

As a seasoned traveler I can say that the UBR is located on the best beach of Sri Lanka. The Unawatuna Beach Resort is a hotel which provides excellent service to its guests. The staff is friendly and willing to go the extra mile to help with any request. Especially the dinners are excellent in variety and taste. The rooms have all necessities and more. The safe, free of charge, is big enough to put a laptop in. The cleaning staff is good and helpful. This is the only hotel I know of in Sri Lanka which offers beach chairs on the beach itself. Their is enough shade and the sea is clean and great to swim in. We will be back!!!
